What the Safety Cap Does and How it works?
The Saratoga safety cap is a flexible polypropylene cap that can be used to fit over any retaining bolt heard or nut.
The remit was to design and produce a flexible and simple technology to assist in the early detection of loosened retaining bolts used throughout the major rail network systems of the world.
Simple to use and cost effective to produce this patented device, once fitted, visually indicates by means of a surface reflective marker that the tightened bolt or nut is loosing. It does this by highlighting the ongoing rotational movement which would otherwise go unnoticed.
By visually alerting an inspector of such a component to an early signs of loosing, in advance of this becoming critical, these caps help to protect both people and structures where these retaining bolts are used.
This technology however can be applied to any structure where critical failure of retention by an unrecognized loosened bolt could result in damage to property or personnel.
In summary, the Saratoga Safety cap:
- Alerts operator to the loosening of a bolt in advance of a critical faillie. In this way it helps to promote the longevity of degrading track
- Is versatile and simple to use, carrying a next to no training burden.
- Uses indicating technology that allows either manual or automated inspection.
- Is lightweight and simple in design.
- Is durable and easy to transport.
- Is electrically nonconductive, preventing electrical arcing between the bolt head and any adjacent electrical source such as power line.
